Is My Child Too Young for Music Lessons?

Absolutely not! There are many great programs out there designed to develop your child’s musical abilities, even at a very young age.   Programs such as Music Together, Kindermusic and Jammin’ With You! have all had amazing success developing young musicians.   The question really is not if the child is too young but rather what are the parent’s expectations?

Of course none of these programs are going to have your child singing operas or rippin’ mean guitar solos before the age of 5 but they will give them a base to build on.  This invaluable exposure will allow them to make huge strides as they enter the 5-10 yr old range. If kids get the basics out of the way at an early age, music will become a part of them and building on top of that base will feel very natural.

Aside from mommy and me programs like Music Together, In-Home lessons from companies such as Jammin’ With You! provide quality music lessons in private or group settings.   Taking In-Home Music lessons keeps the child in their own territory.  Children tend to “be themselves” at home vs. in a big group.  When engaged in a music lesson, it is important for thechild to be free and expressive.

When your lessons take place in-home, you don’t need to settle on guitar lessons, piano lessons or voice lessons.  If you can find the right teacher, an overall music lesson can be provided assuming the right equipment is available.   This is what makes Jammin’ With You! such a great program.  All of the in-home music teachers on staff are full time, professional musicians with teaching and music degrees.  Many are multi-instrumentalists and all are young, fun and patient.  If music lessons are presented as an exploration and a fun activity rather than straight from a textbook, children will be engaged and doors will be opened.

Check out these websites and decide which program is right for you.
