Jes Perry grew up in Connecticut and began singing at age three. Heavily influenced by her two older sisters, one a vocalist the other an acoustic guitar player, Jes spent hours going through her sister’s record collections and in those early days, learned to sing harmonies by singing along with the Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Eagles and Stevie Wonder. By Age seven, Jes was participating in school musicals and plays and throughout middle and high school, was involved in choir, madrigals, drama club, was select for all Connecticut Chorus three times and was awarded the National School Choral Award her senior year.
Jes was a scholarship student at the prestigious Hartt School of Music for three semesters prior to transferring to the University of Connecticut where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in traditional vocal performance. After moving to Boston, Jes participated in the Boston music scene singing back-up and playing keyboards, and in 2000 began playing guitar and performing her original songs at open mics. Jes has played in clubs all over Boston and in 2002, released her first cd of original rock music, Clearing My Head; her second cd, The Way That I Feel, was released in 2010. Both cd’s are currently available on iTunes, cdbaby.com, digstation.com, Amazon.com and over 60 other digital distributors.
Jes has also had a very successful career working in college admissions including Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, and most recently as Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management at Montserrat College of Art. As a result of her admissions background, Jes offers specific lessons for high school age students focused on college admissions audition preparation.
In 2009, Jes left her admissions career to return to school and pursue music full-time. In May 2010, Jes graduated from Berklee College of Music summa cum laude with a second Bachelor’s degree in professional music and contemporary vocal styles.
Currently, Jes performs originals and covers with her band, teaches private voice, piano and guitar lessons, continues to write and record, is pursing voice-over work and is a member of the a cappella renaissance choir Coro Stella Maris. You can hear some of Jes’ original music at www.jesperry.com.
