Jon Butterworth, a native of Cape Elizabeth, ME, started playing the drums at the young age of 3. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, Jon played the drums and trumpet in jazz big bands and combos and won awards for excellence in music. After high school, he decided to follow his passion and studied at Boston University, where he earned a degree in Music Education. While at BU, he participated in many groups and ensembles, including; the marching band, pep band, gospel choir, wind symphony, big band, and many other groups, which gave him the opportunity to play at such venues as Symphony Hall in Boston, TD Banknorth Garden, and Madison Square Garden.

After following his passion for teaching at BU, Jon is now studying drum set performance at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Along with drums, Jon also teaches Trumpet and Beginner piano. Jon's teaching goals include building a whole musician, not just a drummer. His students learn to read music and think melodically, not just rhythmically. His students are also taught to be very versatile musicians and will learn a wide variety of playing styles and genres. Older students will have the opportunity to study technique and really dig into the music. Younger students get a great introduction into music and their instrument through fun games and exercises. Most importantly, his students have fun playing music and playing their instrument while learning to express themselves musically.
