Kara Kulpa: Violin lessons Violin Teacher Kara Kulpa is a new resident of New England, though she’s long been a part of its unique music scene. A native of Chicago, IL, she spent her childhood studying classical violin; eventually earning two performance scholarships to Illinois State University, where she studied and became a Music Therapist. During her residency in the windy city, Kara impressed audiences along with her fellow musical mates in the Protégé Philharmonic and Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Ensembles. She performed as part of a quartet for inner-city schools to raise awareness about the need to keep music education in low-budget curriculum and traveled across seas with the exclusive Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Symphony Orchestra. (She can still hear the string “bells” of Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony ringing through the cathedral halls in Bad Doberan, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.)

During her violin-learning years, Kara also picked up the guitar and turned into a full-fledged touring singer/songwriter, having since showcased at numerous national festivals and shared the stage with everyone from Eddie Money to Rufus Wainwright. As well as performing her own material, Kara is an accomplished session musician and regularly records violin, guitar and mandolin tracks for independent artists around the country. While in college, Kara performed in the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and unleashed her improvisational violin skills. Since that time, she has performed on violin (and mandolin) in dozens of acts around the country and currently performs as part of the Ryan Fitzsimmons Band, The Wilton Dub, and The Ramblers (NYC), although, she’s no stranger to sitting in with whoever she happens to be sharing the stage with and enjoys playing all styles from folk to funk. She keeps a full listing of her upcoming shows (whether solo or as part of another act) on her official website (www.karakulpa.com). All of that said, Kara has been teaching all levels of violin lessons for 7 years, beginner to intermediate guitar lessons for 5 years, and beginner mandolin lessons for 1 year. She brings a unique enthusiasm, individualized planning and creative atmosphere to her lessons and looks forward to working with you!
