Lisette Murphy: Violin Lessons Violin Teacher Lisette had been playing the flute in school at age 11, practicing scales and learning how to read music, when she found an old electric guitar in the back of her dad's closet. The strings were 20 years old and she didn't have an amplifier, but plunking on that instrument with her dad's support created a whole new amazing relationship with music. Calling up the old traditional songs her family sang to her, Lisette learned to play the guitar and sing with songs like Shul-A-Roo, Froggy Went A-Courtin', Stewball and St. James Infirmary. She then worked out Nirvana and Pearl Jam tablature from songbooks and was quickly devouring all the music she could while starting to write her own music with the things she was learning. Her background in theater and years in school choirs helped her learn to really control her voice, work out her vocal chords, and use her breathing to maximize her voice's potential. Lisette has been playing in bands and independently for over thirteen years now primarily on the guitar, but also has fun playing hand drums, tambourine, and the musical saw! She has recorded voice and music with many bands over the years & done vocal work for a national ad campaign in addition to her live performances.

Lisette currently writes, sings and plays guitar in an Americana music duo that performs all over New England and is working on a side project performing jazz standards from the '30s-'50s. She also hosts a monthly music gathering of people young and old playing bluegrass around a big campfire together! Communal music is fun music!

When she's not making music, Lisette directs and teaches both theater and animation.
