Dara Eagle, born in Lexington, Virginia grew up surrounded by traditional folk, bluegrass, and country music in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She learned piano at eight and trumpet at ten, and at eleven started composing songs. At twelve she moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts and at fifteen she lived in Beijing, China for a year and began teaching herself to play guitar. She sang with the school’s Honor Choir in Beijing and in Manila, Philippines, and also placed into the International Honor Choir 2001 in Berlin, Germany. She began classical voice lessons at thirteen at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, which she continued through her music minor at Adelphi University (eight years of training from opera to jazz to musical theater). At Adelphi she earned recognition for the Best Senior Honors Thesis and the Ruth St. Denis Award for Best Thesis in Performing Arts, 2006, for her thesis in musical composition, along with a BFA in Acting and a dance minor.
Since college she has performed solo (www.daraeagle.com) and with the original rock band Stroamata (www.stroamata.com), worked on numerous collaborative projects with other local artists, taught herself to play ukulele, and is currently studying viola and bass. She considers music an important tool for expression and growth, and loves sharing her passion with others, especially little ones J
