Karl Lyden is a professional pianist and trombonist in New York City. He performs regularly with big bands, small jazz groups, and several rock bands. Karl has played in pit orchestras for musicals including Kinky Boots, West Side Story, and The Sweet Smell of Success. He also worked in the show bands of Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Lines. In the summer of 2013, Karl performed in Disneyland as lead trombonist with the All-American College Band. While keeping a busy sideman schedule, Karl also writes music for his own 8-piece modern jazz group.
Karl hails from Omaha, Nebraska where he started teaching privately in high school. He received his B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he became well-versed in jazz and classical. Karl then completed a Master's at New York University where he was an adjunct faculty instructor. He has taught individual and group lessons to students of all ages on trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, and guitar. Karl’s teaching style is grounded in fundamentals but also tailored to each student. He believes that music can enrich one’s life by improving discipline, ability to multitask, but most importantly having fun!
