It's the middle of the school year and some students could benefit from a new fun element in their practice routine. The musical mystery bag (aka an envelope!), is a nice way to create variation and fun in a students' practice routine. This is meant to be used as a supplement (not substitution) to JWY practice books. Simply write the student's name on an envelope (decorate if you'd like), and fill it with assignments.

There are several ways to use the Musical Mystery Bag:
  • Fill with the tasks for the week. The more you can break down tasks the better. For example, if you want your student to practice a song with hands separate - put one card in for left hand, and another for right hand. Tell them to go through all the cards in the envelope in each practice session.
  • Fill with all the scales your student is working on.
  • Fill with all the songs your student knows, so that they can keep them in rotation and not forget them.
