Roselyn Hobbs

Scene of the jam: In-home lessons Greater Boston

Jamstruments: Viola, violin, piano

Jamifications: Roselyn’s formal degrees in music include a masters in contemporary music performance from Boston Conservatory, a Bachelor of Music (viola performance) from University of Tennessee. She also studied abroad with Birmingham Conservatoire (viola performance) in 2014. In addition, she was part of several Festivals/Summer Study programs, including Music from Salem, Montecito International Music Festival, Castleman Quartet Program, Tuttle Viola Workshop, Wintergreen Performing Arts, Sewanee Summer Music Festival and American Festival for the Arts.

Jams of note: One of Roselyn’s favorite musical memories was the “incredible experience of touring with two of the members of Bang on a Can All Stars and the Ambient Orchestra.” The group performed and recorded an orchestral rock arrangement of David Bowie’s Blackstar album. Roselyn has also recorded on her own and lent her talents to small projects as a guest musician, and to the orchestra pit for many musicals and operas.
How she’ll be jammin’ with you: Since her days as an undergraduate student, Roselyn has been teaching private and group lessons in the Boston area, and places as far flung as the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania! As a teacher, her primary goal is to “develop and nourish a love of music” using positive reinforcement and clear, concise instruction. Her desire is for students to expand their abilities and confidence in an environment where they are comfortable experimenting, asking questions, and sharing ideas, as well as crafting and performing their own compositions.
