Jammer School: Gavin holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition from Boston University, but his musical journey started long before he earned those credentials. Speaking of starting piano lessons at age four, Gavin says, “It was game-over for me: I became forever musically obsessed.” He continued to study piano and picked up guitar, bass and drums along the way. In school, Gavin involved himself in every musical opportunity available (concert and marching bands, jazz band, orchestra, choir, a capella group and musical theatre). In his free time, he jammed with his friends in several bands, playing shows across northern New Jersey. Teaching is yet another extension of his incredibly musical existence!

How Gavin jams with you: Gavin strives to instill a love and passion for all things musical in his students, and does so in a fun and relaxed way. Once the groundwork is laid and students are engaged, he loves to teach them not only what to do on their instrument, but why. In his eyes, knowing music is the first step and understanding music is what truly enables a student to do whatever they wish with the craft. It is Gavin’s mission to offer all of his students this opportunity to engage with music (however they choose) because that is what truly creates a lasting relationship with this wonderful art form.
