Strummin With You: Uke Boot Camp

Ready to start playing an instrument in just one week? Uke Boot Camp is the perfect starting point for true beginners who want to jump into music in a fun, supportive environment. Over the course of the week, students will learn the essentials of ukulele—from holding and tuning the instrument to playing their first chords and strumming patterns. By building skills step by step and playing real songs together, campers quickly gain confidence and discover how much music they can make in just a few days. No experience required—just bring your curiosity and get ready to strum!

By the end of this intensive, students will know how to:

  • Play essential beginner chords
  • Strum with a steady rhythm
  • Follow chord charts
  • Change chords smoothly
  • Play complete songs
  • Tune and care for ukulele
  • Practice and learn more on their own

Chief Strummer

Jesse Weiss

Jesse Weiss has been making music—and helping others make music—for as long as anyone at Jammin With You can remember. A funny, relatable teacher with a knack for making beginners feel instantly comfortable, Jesse specializes in helping new musicians get up and playing quickly while keeping the experience fun and collaborative.

Jesse studied music throughout high school and went on to earn a B.A. in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, where he further developed his skills as a performer, collaborator, and educator.

For the past two years, Jesse has led Uke-a-Ladies, a popular ukulele group where adult beginners learn chords, strumming patterns, and songs together in a supportive, community-centered environment. He has also been directing JamBANDS for more than five years, guiding young musicians as they learn how to play together, listen to each other, and bring songs to life as a group.

Jesse has been part of the Jammin With You community for so long that it’s hard to remember a time before he was here. Over the years, he has taught countless students, led classes, and helped shape the jammin, music-first culture that defines the program.

In Uke Boot Camp, Jesse brings all of that experience to true beginners—breaking down the basics in a clear, encouraging way so that by the end of the week, students are confidently strumming chords, playing songs, and discovering just how fun the ukulele can be.
